Should the nation have compulsory education?

Pro: Some citizens have no desire to educate themselves. Many would choose not to develop their capabilities with a view to improving their lot in life, let alone making significant contributions to their communities or to their country.

Con: Compulsory education involves the promotion of a uniform set of ideas and values among many diverse groups within the larger society. Some of those ideas and values are at odds with the teachings of some families and religious organizations.
