Should laws allow some hospitals be run as for-profit businesses?

Pro: Competition improves the quality of medical care.

Con: The health care system may split into two separate and unequal systems—one for the affluent, another for the impoverished. Poor people will not get the same quality of health care that rich people will.

Con: For-profit hospitals tend to limit or fail to provide many of the important yet unprofitable services, like emergency services, traditionally provided by hospitals.
