Pro: Prospective parents can use the information that results from genetic testing in their decision regarding abortion. Thus, they can avoid procreating a child when they are certain that it will be defective.

Con: Genetic testing might eventually be used for frivolous reasons. Prospective parents might, for example, want a child of a particular sex or a child with blue eyes: a fetus that is female or one that has brown eyes might be considered as having a birth defect.
