Should society approve of divorce?

Pro: Divorce affords a person a chance to escape from a cold, hateful and even violent relationship, one that is psychologically and perhaps physically destructive.

Con: Divorce subverts the institution of marriage. It lessens the sense of the importance of the marriage vows and contributes to the breakdown of society.

Con: Children benefit from a stable home environment, one in which both parents are present. The children of divorced parents have their lives disrupted and often suffer psychological harm as a result of the divorce.
