Should society recognize sexual surrogacy as a profession?

The sexual surrogate is a hired sexual partner who counsels and assists clients with problems in sexual functioning and adjustment. Sexual surrogates argue that they are concerned with improving the sex lives of their clients. Critics of sexual surrogacy argue that it is no more than prostitution.

Prostitutes may help their clients in improving sexual performance, too. But, where they exist, the differences between sexual surrogacy and prostitution are significant. Chief among them is the concern the sex surrogate has for the client. Society does not expect prostitutes to have in mind the well-being of their clients. With sexual surrogacy, however, that expectation is of paramount importance.
